[REVIEW] Wind Slayer 2

Publisher: IgnitedGames
Genre: 2D Side-Scroller
Experience Rate: Average
Graphic Quality: Average
Races: 1
Classes: 6 (each with 2 sub-classes)

Wind Slayer 2 is a 2D side-scrolling MMORPG published by IgnitedGames. Originally hosted by OutSpark, this game was known as Wind Slayer and later being relaunched as Wind Slayer 2. Considering the competition in it's genre (MapleStory, WonderKing and LaTale) Wind Slayer 2 needs to be up to par or even better.

Character Customization
As far as customizing your character Wind Slayer doesn't have much to offer. Although you can create up to 12 characters per account the customization is quite limiting. A few hairs styles, faces, shirts, pants and shoes. I was hoping for more options in this game, since a lot of it's competition limits it's character's features as well. Since you constantly see the entire front side of your character in games like this it would have been a smart move to elaborate on the customization, considering this is actually not Wind Slayer's first release. Your shirt, pants and shoes mix and match to make some full sets of colored outfits, but that's really all it has to offer.

Graphics
Stepping into Wind Slayer 2 I was quite pleased. Yeah, the whole thing has pretty much been done before with the other 2D side-scrollers, but Wind Slayer 2 still adds stuff to the table. The settings and themes seem legit with bustling color everywhere you go. The color palettes are rich and deep and definitely coincide with the environment. The towns as well as the shops in them are quite detailed to say the least. All in all it has a colorfully pleasing vibe. The spell effects are pretty nice for 2D. The fire-type skills have a burning look to them and the earth-type spells offer a nice animation of summoning rock spikes from the ground.

 Controls
Double Jump. DOUBLE JUMP! Few people realize how much can be added by simply having a double jump feature. Sure it doesn't seem like much, but it can actually add quite a bit to the gameplay. Especially in PVP (which we'll get to in a moment) and reaching those extra ledges that a single jump just can't make. The movement is done with the arrow keys, SPACE to jump and with the "S" key and "D" key being your attack and powerful attack respectively. Your spells, potions, scrolls or items can be routed to the "Q, W, E, R, T" keys as well as some other keys around them. The control setup isn't the best, but they'll hold you over. I found myself accidentally pressing

Gameplay
Wind Slayer 2 is, in it's core, your basic quest/kill grind gameplay. You pick up a few quests from a town and then slay groups of monsters a zone or two over. Rinse and repeat. It's not all that bad though. I could be scouting a few ledges while also looking at my mimimap to watch where mobs spawn. Then run up and blast them with my AoE magic spells. Pick up the loot and kill some more. There's a unique dungeon feature with allows you to solo or group with some friends and enter an instanced dungeon where you defeat all the mobs on the map. Each which have quite a few maps with a boss at the end where you're rewarded with those sought after treasures. This adds some more team play to the game. As far as leveling up goes you are awarded 4 stat points per level where you can spend them in either strength, dexterity, intellect and vitality.

Classes
Straight from the beginning when you create your character you start as a novice. At level 10 you finally select your class by going to it's respected job field zone. Six classes are available to you from the start which are Warrior, Rogue, Monk, Archer, Mage and Priest. Each having two sub classes to advance to after that.

Warrior - The tough one. This is your basic melee fighter that can either destroy monsters by later choosing the Berserker class, or defend party members by becoming a Paladin.

Rogue - The nimble one. Speedy attacks are what defines the Rogue. After they have trained for a while  practicing their quick combat they can either shred it's enemies by becoming an Assassin or tricking and luring them into harm by becoming a Trapper.

Monk - The peaceful one. Monks use their fists and mighty defense to win the battle. They can either train in the ways of the mind as a Counter learning from enemies and using their weaknesses against them or train in the way of the body becoming a Fighter who uses brute force to overcome their foes.

Archer - The natural one. Archers can easily take out their enemies from a far. If they decide to further learn the ways of the bow they can become a Sniper. Some even go after the natural side of battle and become Beast Masters who can call upon the creatures in the world to aid them in battle.

Mage - The mystic one. Mages call upon the elements to freeze, burn and shock their enemies. Although very powerful with magic, they have low health and armor.

Priest - The holy one. Priests use the light to heal and support their friends and allies. If the Priest becomes corrupted one can become a Dark Priest who trains with the dark of nature. If support is more appealing one can become a Bishop with advanced healing and support abilities.

PVP
With PVP being trouble in a few games of this caliber, WS2 actually does quite a good job on the subject. They have the Arena feature which puts characters into a deathmatch type game. Unlike most PVP games the higher level community doesn't always obliterate the new comers. What they have is a feature that scales the higher level player down to the lower one's level, thus equalizing the match. PVP is actually in my opinion the biggest feature in the game due to the fact that it's content after end game.

Music
The soundtrack is appealing in the world with the music matching up nicely to the areas and towns. It creates a nice atmosphere for the surround world. Nothing too over the top, but some tunes that will keep you grinding, grinding, grinding.

Cash Shop
Yes, Wind Slayer 2 does in fact have a Cash Shop. It is, in fact, not too bad. The only things that paying players can purchase is mostly cosmetic and fashion items. New faces, hair styles, shirts, pants, masks, capes and even whole outfits. There's also a few megaphones you can purchase to speak to the whole channel you're in or even the whole world. The only thing that might be a disadvantage is the +EXP% scrolls (only used for a limited amount of time) as well as the extra inventory and storage space. The last thing that really intrigued me was the ability to buy a TRIPLE JUMP ability with limited uses.

Overview
All in all Wind Slayer 2 is a nice 2D side-scrolling MMO with a few unique features to it's genre. If you can get past the lacking character customization you'll be happy to experience the well designed graphics with their colorful theme. The controls are somewhat easy at times and sometimes bothersome to get used to, but you'll be slaying monsters back to back very quickly. The starter classes aren't exactly unique, but you do get to choose a class from the start and even get to advance into one of two sub jobs which add a bit of variety. With a fairly (and impressively) nice Cash Shop, Wind Slayer 2 is definitely worth checking out if you're into the genre.

Positive:
Easy to pick up
Arena PVP
Fair Cash Shop
Neat sub-classes

Negative:
Controls could be better
Repetive gameplay

Supermassive Score: 7/10
